SSPEED STUDENTS
KATHERINE ANARDE, PHD STUDENT
Research Interests: I'm interested in how human activities influence coastal dynamics. My research integrates field experiments with computational models to investigate the hazards associated with changes to coastal barriers and tidal deltas due to climate change impacts, tropical storms, and engineering activities.
Current Project: Rapid response instrumentatin for measuring barrier island overwash and inundation during hurricane attack along the central and upper Texas coast.
CONNIE DO, MS STUDENT
Research Interests: My research interests are in the impacts of storm surge mitigation systems on coastal resilience. I utilize advanced numerical models to study how engineered storm surge mitigation structures not only protect against hurricane-induced surge, but also interact with the built environment and coastal communities they serve.
Current Project: Surface trajectory modeling of aboveground storage tank chemical spills within the Houston Ship Channel during storm surge events.
AVANTIKA GORI, MS STUDENT
Research Interests: I'm interested in quantifying the impacts of urbanization trends and development policy on flood risk and floodplain evolution. My research seeks to develop modeling methods to represent land use evolution through time and assess the corresponding impacts on surface hydrologic processes for extreme precipitation events.
Current Project: Integrated land use projection, hydrologic, and hydraulic modeling to predict future urban flood vulnerability in the Greater Houston region.
FERNE MAULSBY, MS STUDENT
Research Interests: As a SSPEED graduate student, I will be evaluating the performance of natural versus structural flood management strategies in the Houston region using hydrologic and hydraulic models. More broadly, I am interested in the effects of development and climate change on flood risk.
Current Project: Modeling and evaluating the impacts of natural and structural flood management strategies in Addicks and Barker Watersheds in Houston, Texas.
