» Hurricane Ike: What We Have Learned and Steps to the Future.

This conference marked the second anniversary of Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast. Meeting on Sept 13, 2010, this one day event brought together private, public, and academia sectors that explored the newest research and developments since last year's conference.

» 2010 Coastal Resilience Symposium
   Date: May 26,2010

The SSPEED Center hosted a one-day symposium at Rice University to examine how to build a more resilient coastline along the Houston/Galveston region. Representatives from several not for profit, governmental, and academic institutions gathered together, along with representatives from the Netherlands, to discuss the complex issue of “hardening” the coast. Structural and non-structural mitigation techniques were discussed.

» Hurricane Ike: Revisited
   Date: September 14, 2009

A one-day conference was held at Rice University to mark the first anniversary of Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast. The meeting was open to the public and included discussion of the recovery and renewal efforts for the Houston/Galveston area. Experts from public, private and academic institutions were in attendance.

» Severe Storm Prediction and Global Climate Impact on the Gulf Coast
   Date: October 29-31, 2008

This multi-day conference focused on issues surrounding Hurricane Katrina including storm prediction and warning, emergency response and recovery strategies. There were also sessions on pre-disaster planning and preparedness, mitigation of severe storm impacts, and both educational and social dimensions of disasters. The last day of the conference concentrated on the impacts of global change on Gulf Coast climate and infrastructure. Participants from across the nation included speakers from public, private and academic sectors.

» Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters
   Date: May 8–9, 2007

Experts from academic, public, and private sectors convened to discuss the technical, social, and economic issues associated with tropical storms and hurricanes in Gulf Coast communities. This conference is a follow up to the March 2006 conference at Rice University on "Severe Storms Impact and Disaster Response".
